He died in Beverly Hills, CA on November 22, 1949 at the age of 56th years old.
This story takes place on a Carribean island. This story consists of two main characters, Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. Rainsford is an experienced hunter who enjoy the sport. He likes hunts because he enjoys it. General Zaroff has been hunting his entire life. Hunting has become dull and he needs something new to hunt who need challenged. Then, Zaroff decided to hunt man as a his game. One day, Rainsford will hunt by General Zaroff. It’s makes a crucial conflict there.
This paper attempts to analyze the character of Sanger Rainsford as the ordinary hunter and General Zaroff as the human hunter. They are as the figure in The Most Dangerous Game’s story. Also this paper attempts to complete the task analysis one of short story for Introduction to English Litterature lesson. This analysis will be supported with the description of the characteristic individually from the figures.

Characterization
Sometimes we used the word characterization especially for appreciating person in play. Moreover, taken from oxford pocket dictionary, characterization is interesting or unusual quality that a person to make a moral strength. Especially characterization just for value the individual character. From the characterization, we can know more about the attitude or habbitual the figure.
In presenting his character, the author also used many modes of characterization of the figures. Richard Connell (1924) has presents literary devices such as habbitual, traits and quality which reveal the underlying the characteristic of figure in the story. It make the reader can imagine the real figure’s character.
The story takes place on a carribean island, jungle, hill and swamp. When Rainsford found this island, he called this island is a mysterious island. Also the jungle it’s like forbidding place. But Rainsford can’t leaves this island until he found the escape.
The author invite the readers to imagine all the atmosphere there. The darkness, the brave, the iniquity of human life. From this story, I can found the real characterization of Sanger Rainsford as the brave man. Also Sanger Rainsford can be a smart and  man with high spirit. It was expressed in a single paragraph:
“. . . sleep had given him new vigor, a sharp hunger was picking at him. He looked about him., almost cheerfully.” (Page : 3)
I also can appreciate about general Zaroff, he is very strong, smart, strict, evil and don’t have respect for human life. It’s describe in that stories when the general Zaroff tells to the Rainsford. General Zaroff said that, he always hunts humans, or we can called him a cannibal. General Zaroff is easily to hunts him death roll. It also was expressed in a single paragraph:
“Life is for the strong, to be lived by the the strong, and, if needs be, taken by the strong. The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I’am strong. Why should I not use my gift? If I wish to hunt, why should I not? I hunt the scum of the earth: sailors from  tramp ship--lassars, blacks, chinese, whites, mongrels--a thoroughbred horse or hound is worth more than score of them.” (page : 8)
The characterization of the story also based on the direct and indirect characterization. For the direct characterization is the character which the author tells us about the real character of figure.
We can know about the characteristic of Rainsford like the author’s telling, when Rainsford had meet with general Zaroff in the  general Zaroff’s home from this paragraph :
“ He was the singularly handsome. He was an original, almost bizzare quality about the general’s face. He was a tall man with the past middle age, and his hair was a vivid white, but his thick eyebrows and pointed military mustache were as black as the night from which Rainsford had come. His eyes too, were black and very bright. He had high cheekbones, a sharpcut nose, a spare , dark face. The face of a man used to giving orders, the face of an aristocrat. Turning to the giant in uniform, the general made a sign. . .” (page : 5)
From the above paragraph, the readers can know how is the general character.
In indirect character, the author will show character in action of figure. What the figure do in every ways.
Indirect character, the reader can know when general Zaroff planned to kill Rainsford, he has a target in this case, for three days general Zaroff must get Rainsford. As time goes by Rainsford, he becames attracted to the dark side. He still keep his nerve when he got the terrible problem. Than, Rainsford becomes more brutal during the hunt when he makes a traps, killing all dogs, and general Zaroff’s servant. At the end, Rainsford turns for completely.
The general sucked in his breath and smiled. “I congratulate you,” he said. “You have won the game.”
Rainsford did not smile. “I am still a beast a bay,” he said, in a low, hoarse voice. “Get ready General Zaroff.”
The general made one of his deepest bows. “I see,” he said. “Splendid! One of us is to funish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford.”...
He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided. (page : 15)
From the above diologues Rainsford is not much different than general Zaroff’s character. Raisnford be a strict person, because he has to killed the general Zaroff to make him survive for a living. Finally, Rainsford can switches roles with the general.
Conclusion
The Most Dangerous Game is one of the short story of Richard Connell. It was published on 1924. This story tells about Sanger Rainsford is the main character in this short story. He is a hunter on a Carribean island with his friend,Whitney. Sanger Rainsford is an excellent hunter and he is very clever man. Sanger Rainsford had met with General Zaroff in the middle of jungle or in a ship-trap island. General Zaroff is a hunter also. When General Zaroff tell to Rainsford what he hunts, him theme is “hunting animals may be considered sporting, but killin another human being is murder.” There is why, it makes a human conflict between them. General Zaroff then makes Rainsford be a part of his game resolution. Finally, Rainsford can wins  the game and he can free from General Zaroff. Because General Zaroff was killed by Rainsford’s trap.
The conclusion is that brave n nimbleness of Rainsford can accompany him to successful to won this dangerous game. Rainsford can survive until he found the escape and killed the general Zaroff. Like Rainsford, everyone has some small problem of darkness in their live, and how us to became a good one to solve the problem with every our circumstance.
